After our 2 year long project of watching EVERY Woody Allen live action production we could find up to March 2018. Your esteemed hosts decided to battle it out and have a long running conversation debating each others picks on the BEST, WORST & MOST UNDERRATED picks from Woody's filmography
We also had some good banter about our thoughts on the movies individually and if things have changed since our earlier recordings
We will be following up from this discussion with a more generic WOODY ALLEN TOP 10 channel video in a few weeks just to make things alot shorter for curious casuals...
So this discussion was actually quite useful for us to make the final list that is soon to come!

At this point in our retrospective we have finally caught up with Woody's movie releases and so that brings us to this romantic-drama set on the beautiful boardwalk of Coney Island...
In Wonder Wheel (2017) Under the dizzying spin of Coney Island's Wonder Wheel, secrets and passions intertwine. Ginny (Kate Winslet), a waitress trapped in a volatile marriage to gruff carousel operator Humpty (Jim Belushi), finds forbidden solace with aspiring writer and lifeguard Mickey (Justin Timberlake). Meanwhile, Humpty's estranged daughter Carolina (Juno Temple) seeks refuge, igniting a love triangle that spins out of control. At this point in Woody Allen's career Amazon Studios were distributing his movies and in an effort to bolster their television projects, Woody was given this opportunity to create this series we are discussing today!
So today we debate the results of said project... hoping for the best and discovering the not so best i'm afraid :(
In Crisis In Six Scenes (2016) A placid suburban life explodes when radical fugitive Lenny (Miley Cyrus) bursts into the home of neurotic writer Sidney (Woody Allen) and his therapist wife Kay (Elaine May). Today we discuss a very pleasant surprise Woddy has given to us in this long form tale of love, loss and choices made...

We are back on the retrospective with another somewhat interesting moral murder think piece by Woody
In Irrational Man (2015) Cynical philosophy professor Abe Lucas (Joaquin Phoenix) drowns his existential despair in booze at a small-town college. Sparks fly with two women: Rita (Parker Posey), a dissatisfied wife, and Jill (Emma Stone), a bright student. But a overheard sob about a corrupt judge ignites Abe's dormant nihilism. Tempted by a rash act of "justice," he grapples with the allure of meaning through chaos, questioning whether life's absurdities deserve defiance or resignation.

Back again with another sidestep from the focused retrospective to follow Woody on yet another one of his outside collaborations, this time being with an exceptionally well known character actor (John Turturro) in a very strange and sexy* type of character piece???
This was certainly a strange one to say the very least... but always fun to have a conversation about :)
In "Fading Gigolo" (2013) Sharon Stone plays Dr. Parker, a wealthy dermatologist, she mentions to one of her patient Murray (Woody Allen) that she and a female friend, Selima (Sofia Vergara), wish to experience a ménage à trois and asks if he knows a willing man.
Murray, whose used bookstore has failed as a business, convinces his friend and former employee Fioravante (John Turturro) to take the gig as both are short of money. Soon, they build a thriving gigolo trade with Murray as the happy pimp. This decision sets off a series of unexpected and comedic events, challenging societal norms and highlighting the intricacies of desire and connection.

Back again with a Woody episode many have waited for us to get around to - apparently this is another standout character piece that although uncomfortable to sit through... it's hard not to admire what's on display here....but sadly we have to inject a bit of reality in this episode as well
First off as always, a description of the movie for the uninitiated
In Blue Jasmine (2013) Jasmine Malone (Cate Blanchett), a former socialite from New York City, finds herself destitute and forced to seek refuge with her sister, Ginger (Sally Hawkins), in the modest working-class neighborhood of San Francisco.
Jasmine's world has been shattered by the revelation of her husband's infidelity and financial ruin, leaving her with nothing but her illusions of grandeur and a desperate need to reclaim her lost status. As she grapples with her shattered self-image and the realities of her new life, she becomes increasingly entangled in a web of deceit and manipulation.
Now putting the movie aside for the moment, at the time of this actual recording Dylan Farrow had come out to do a in person interview for the first time to AGAIN continue the accusation of Woody and sexual assault in the midst of the #metoo / #timesup movement - as well as all the current crop of past actors that worked with Woody now denouncing Woody Allen completely
Because we decided to tackle all this drama in this episode specifically, it obviously got extended more than urual, so we want to thank those who stuck it out all the way through to the very end

BACK on the retrospective with another European story venture for Mr Allen. Memory serves as this one not being very good with alot of critical feedback and disappointment, however, our recent re-watch has given us some new perspective... so lets talk about..
In 'To Rome With Love' (2012) four different couples find themselves intertwined in a series of romantic escapades and life-changing encounters in the vibrant Italian city of Rome.
Their stories interweave as they navigate the complexities of love, relationships, and self-discovery, reflecting the universality of human experiences amidst the backdrop of Rome's captivating beauty and rich history.
.......ALSO it seems Woody collaborated on another movie around this time with very middling results
