We continue to move forward with our Retrospective as we look at a movie where Woody seems to want to take a break and do some lighthearted romance comedy far away in the countryside
A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy is a 1982 loose adaptation of William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. The film stars Allen as Andrew Hobbs, a married man who goes to the country with his friends to spend a weekend of intellectual conversation. However, things don't go according to plan as the group becomes entangled in a series of romantic misadventures.
The cast also stars: Mia Farrow, Jose Ferrer, Julie Kavner, Tony Roberts and Mary Steenburgen to name a few

We continue to move forward with our retrospective as we look at a bit of a heel turn for Woody at this point in his career as he takes a darker tone of dramatic storytelling with this feature
Interiors tells the story of the Flynns, a wealthy New York family whose lives are turned upside down when the family patriarch, Arthur, leaves his wife Eve for another woman. As the Flynns struggle to come to terms with other changes in their lives, they are forced to confront their own inner demons and insecurities.
The cast includes: Geraldine Page as Eve, E. G. Marshall as Arthur, Diane Keaton as Renata, Kristin Griffith as Flyn, Mary Beth Hurt as Joey, Maureen Stapleton as Pearl and Sam Waterston as Mike to name a few

We continue to move forward with our retrospective as we look at the most celebrated, adored and beloved movie Woody Allen has made so far, even after all these years ..AND IRONICALLY it looks like we tackled this discussion on it's 40th YEAR ANNIVERSARY! :)
Annie Hall is a 1977 American romantic comedy about Alvy Singer, a neurotic comedian who falls in love with Annie Hall, a quirky and independent woman. The film explores the ups and downs in their relationship and is a celebrated favourite in the genre to say the least
The film stars Woody Allen and Diane Keaton and won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

We continue to move forward with our Retrospective as we look at another movie that was not directly written or Directed by Allen but he is certainly FRONT and CENTER in this comedy drama :P
The Front is a 1976 American comedy-drama film about Howard Bannister, a television writer who is blacklisted during the McCarthy era. He agrees to sell his scripts to other writers under the table in order to make a living, but he soon finds himself caught up in a web of lies and deceit.
The film stars Woody Allen, Zero Mostel, Herschel Bernardi, Martin Landau, and Lloyd Nolan. It was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $10 million at the box office at the time and being nominated for three Academy Awards.

We continue to move forward with our Retrospective as we look at the last movie in Woodys initial streak of early comedies... often referred to as the "early funny ones" we go out with a very fun and whimsical flick: 1975's Love and Death
In Love and Death Woody stars as Boris Grushenko, a cowardly Russian soldier during the Napoleonic Wars. Boris is drafted into the army and sent to fight against the French. Along the way, he falls in love with Sonja (Diane Keaton), a beautiful young woman who is also engaged to another man. Boris must use all of his wit and cunning to win Sonja's heart and survive the war.
Also starring Diane Keaton as Sonja,Harold Gould as Anton Ivanovich Lebedokov, Olga Georges-Picot as Countess Alexandrovna, James Tolkan as Napoleonand Beth Porter as Anna to name a few

We continue to move forward with our retrospective as we look at a big fan favourite and a very popular movie from woodys collection - this time we are talking about: 1973's Sleeper
Sleeper is a scienccce fiction comedy film where Woody stars as Miles Monroe, a Greenwich Village health food store owner who is cryogenically frozen in 1973 and wakes up 200 years later in a dystopian future. The film follows Miles as he tries to adjust to his new life and learns about the totalitarian government that is now in power - many hijinks ensue to say the least :)
Also starring Diane Keaton as Luna Schlosser, Donald O'Connor as Erno Windt, Barbara Barrie as Dr. Orva and many more!
